Rhodohypoxis baurii ' Margaret '
Rhodohypoxis baurii is the most common species. It forms carpets in grassland and rocky places up to 2900 m. Leaves are dull green with sparse long hairs and a midrib grooved to the tip. Flowers are white to pink to red and faintly scented.
Gentiana True Blue
True sapphire blue upward-facing 2” flowers mingle with the emerald green foliage producing long-blooming garden treasures. Flowers sparkle with the morning dew. Prolific flowering occurs up and down the stems on each node.
Aloe Bainesii
The South Africans tree aloe Aloe barberae ( known for many years as Aloe bainesii), is a small to medium-sized, much-branched tree with a massive trunk and high rounded crown that can take a variety of shapes and sizes. In its native land this slow-growing tree can reach 18-20 m high. It is widely used as an ornamental plant in tropical and Mediterranean gardens and can certainly be described as a timeless classic. Aloe barberae is Africa's largest aloe.
Acer Autumn Blaze
Upright growing hardy tree with a dense crown. Green leaves in summer turning a striking orange red in Autumn. Wind tolerant. Ideal as a specimen tree, shelter or avenue planting. Growth Rate: Fast 10yr Height: 4m
Leucospernum High Gold
An excellent evergreen shrub with vibrant yellow pincushion flowers in spring. Ideal coastal plant suited to light free draining soils in the sun. Great cut flowers. Trim back after flowering to maintain shape and size.
Brunia Stokerii Ruby Red
An upright shrub. The needle-like leaves are glabrous (smooth), leaves. The red flowers are borne in flower heads 15mm across and appear in early to mid-summer. Grow in full sun with well drained soil. Evergreen.

Gardenias have become firm favourites with New Zealand gardeners. Their evergreen good looks and their refined, white, stunningly perfumed flowers have seen their popularity skyrocket in recent years.
Gazania Takatu Red
Sizzling deep red flowers with a contrasting central eye of yellow, cream and black, plus deep green, attractive foliage, make this summer flowering perennial a treat. The flowers, which keep on opening over a long period, are large, exceptionally so for such a small plant, making ‘Takatu Red’ spectacular as well as beautiful.

Everyone loves Federation Daisies. They have a simple beauty which makes them favourites with young and old. Pick a bunch of mixed daisy flowers and pop them into a simple jug or vase and you'll have a table arrangement that is likely to be more of a talking point with guests than some expensive cut flowers from the best florist.
Witch Hazel
A large deciduous shrub with colorful, fragrant flowers during the winter, witch hazel is virtually maintenance-free and resistant to most pests and diseases. Witch hazels perform best in full sun (or filtered shade in hotter regions), where the flowers glow like fiery embers in the backlight of the low winter sun.
Lavender Sweet Romance
English lavender 'Sweet Romance' is a great option for those looking for a slightly smaller hedge. At around 45cm tall with a profusion of deepest mauve blue flowers, 'Sweet Romance' is long flowering, fragrant and flowers in the first season of planting.
Hibiscus Fifth Dimension
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Fifth Dimension' This amazing, psychedelic plant has flowers that change color throughout the day.
Nandina Gulfstream
One of the best compact shrubs for year-round foliage interest. This hardy evergreen with its bamboo like appearance boasts multi coloured foliage turning to rich red in cooler months. Its easy care compact habit and colour make it compatible with all modern home decor and garden landscapes.
Comos Chocolate
Unique velvet Burgundy, almost Black, petalled perennial Cosmos not usually available from seed, with the added attraction of a dark chocolate fragrance. A must have in every cottage garden.
Iris
Iris is a genus of 260–300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris.
Vireya Kisses
Vireya rhododendrons are for adventurous gardeners looking for something different and dazzling. They're colourful, flower freely several times a year. They hail from the tropics and will do well through much of coastal NZ. In cooler areas they are often grown in containers and moved into sheltered positions in winter.
Black Mondo Grass
A popular landscaping plant with deep purple-black grass like leaves, punctuated by dainty flowers of pale violet followed by shiny black berries. Great contrast plant for mass planting in sun or shade. Prefers well-drained soil. Evergreen. Hardy.
Protea Venus
Venus is a deep red protea that is great for cutting. It is a cross between Protea repens x aristata hybrid.
Rhaphiolepis Enchantress
A tough evergreen shrub from southern China. Thick, leathery, oblong leaves with toothed margins, dark green above, olive green beneath, developing a bronze tinge later in winter.
Cyclamen Hybrids
Cyclamen, both potted for the house and growing in the garden, add a welcome burst of colour at this time of year. (One of my Mothers favourites)
